How it works

SURFBOARD RENTALS AND SALES

Rentals

As with Lending, The SurfShare recommends that both parties secure the rental through our safe and secure escrow system. This way, the person renting the surfboard can put down a deposit for the value of the surfboard. This ensures that if the surfboard is broken, damaged, or not returned to its rightful owner in the same shape it was borrowed, the person lending the surfboard will receive compensation for damages.

Sales

All sales between The SurfShare users will remain between the two parties. However, for the safety, security, and peace of mind of both parties, The SurfShare recommends that the surfboard transaction be completed through our safe and secure online escrow payment system. This will ensure that the transaction is properly tracked. The SurfShare does not negotiate for the two parties. The price agreed upon between the buyer and the seller is strictly between the two parties and The SurfShare assumes no liability for the sale.

SURF GUIDES, INSTRUCTORS, PHOTOGRAPHERS, VIDEOGRAPHERS AND LODGING

Surf Guides

Any and all negotiations between The SurfShare users (in this case, the surf guide and the surfer) will remain between the two parties. Not withstanding, the views of the surf guide do not necessarily reflect the views of The SurfShare.

Surf Instructors

A surf instructor is different than a surf guide in that the primary purpose of a surf instructor is to offer surf lessons to clients interested in learning how to surf. Any and all negotiations between The SurfShare users (in this case, the surf instructor and the potential client) will remain between the two parties. However, for the safety, security, and peace of mind of both parties, The SurfShare recommends that the sale transaction be completed through our safe and secure online escrow payment system. Surf Lodging

Setting your Price

There is no standard price for the services found on The SurfShare. Each individual has the liberty to name their own price according to what they deem to be fair. In other words, the individual gets to choose the amount they'd like to charge for their surfboard, guiding, photography, surf lessons —per hour, per day, per week, etc. As a result, you will see a variety of different prices depending on what country you search in. That's because each individual has the freedom to set custom prices for their boards and/or services. It is our hope that this system will help surf travelers get the best bang for their buck.

The SurfShare Payment System

The SurfShare’s payment system is designed to make transferring money between individuals as simple and secure as possible.

Here’s how it works:

Surf travelers pay The SurfShare once the two parties have agreed upon the price and the service, the payer (the person receiving the goods and/or services) releases the funds to the payee (the person providing the goods and/or services). Using The SurfShare’s escrow payment system is required to finalize a transaction between The SurfShare’s members. This helps to ensure that both parties are protected under our Terms of Service.

Taking transactions off of The SurfShare and/or paying outside The SurfShare system is not recommended as it is not secure, and we cannot guarantee a safe and secure sale when reservations are not done through our online payment system. To help cover the costs of running these services, The SurfShare automatically includes a 5% service fee in each transaction taken from the base price of said transaction.

The SurfShare Service Transaction Fee

The SurfShare charges a 5% service fee for any monetary exchanges that go on between The SurfShare users via our escrow payment system. This system is extremely safe and secure, moreover, it ensures a happy exchange between all parties. This fee ensures The SurfShare’s continued success in bringing you the highest quality site with which to surf share all over the world. Service fees are calculated from the base price agreed upon between the two parties involved. The SurfShare 5% service fee will be extracted from the total cost of the aforementioned transaction.

Fees

There are three types of fees you may need to pay in addition to the base price agreed upon between the two parties:

  • SurfShare transaction fee
  • Payment gateway fee
  • Currency exchange fee

We recommend that people who are lending and/or renting out their surfboards ask for a security deposit. This can be done through The SurfShare escrow system. It protects the person lending and/or renting a board in the instances when a board gets damaged. In those circumstances, the funds will be released to them.

How does The SurfShare take out the 5% transaction fee?

If an individual sells a surfboard for 300 USD to another user in our network, The SurfShare would keep 15.00 USD. That means that the seller of the board will get 285 USD for the sale of the board. The buyer would still pay 300 USD for the surfboard; however, The SurfShare would only keep 15.00 USD of the overall cost as a convenience service fee.

Declined or Unanswered Services

In the case that a “seller” (the individual who posted the listing) declines the goods or services solicited by the “renter” (the individual soliciting the seller’s goods or services), or fails to respond in a timely manner, the money will be reimbursed back to the “renter”. Please refer to PayPal's reimbursement policy for this type or reimbursement. Please be aware that reimbursements from PayPal will usually take between 5-7 business days.
